25-06-2007 Mark Mendel says the use of trade sanctions is not without precedent

The Antigua's lead counsel in the gambling dispute against the Unites States told the Antigua Sun the request for trade sanctions is nothing that the US have not used themselves in similar situations. Mendel said he still hopes to see a resolution before the sanctions are approved, but Antigua's Finance Minister Dr. Errol Cort isn't optimistic that the threats of sanctions will carry any weight in Washington.

The WTO will decide whether the trade sanctions requested by Antigua are reasonable during its 24 July meeting.
