23-11-2007 Interpol co-ordinates Operation Soccer Gambling

Following a six months investigation into illegal soccer gambling across Asia, over 400 persons were arrested by Interpol in collaboration with local law-enforcement agencies in China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

In recent months, the owners of three internet cafes in Singapore as well as the people operating a fake law firm in Taiwan had been arrested for running illegal internet betting operations.

According to an Interpol spokesperson, Operation SOGA, short for soccer gambling, served as an excellent test of national, regional and international police co-operation ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games.
