23-10-2006 Ladbrokes to compete with the World Series of Poker

The UK bookmaker said it will invest £3 million in its Poker Million tournament with the aim of turning it into a European competitor to the Las Vegas’s World Series of Poker.

John O’Reilly, Ladbrokes Managing Director of e-Gaming, said the US ban on online gambling opens up a huge opportunity for an offline poker tournament in Europe.

"Poker Million is already the biggest poker event in Europe and we believe that by investing in the tournament and changing the format, London may rival the World Series," he said.
