23-02-2008 A Dream Come True: William Hill customer becomes the first betting shop millionaire

While the case brought by gambling addict Graham Calvert, who claims Hills encouraged him to bet until he lost £2.1m, continues to be discussed in the High Court, a regular customer at one of William Hill's North Yorkshire betting shops turned a 50p bet into a £1 milliom pay-out after his eight-horse accumulator landed combined odds of almost 2.8 million to 1.

"His first winner was called Isn't That Lucky in the 2.55pm at Sandown on Friday afternoon and his last winner was A Dream Come True in the 9.20pm at Wolverhampton. It is a staggering bet and earns him a place in history as the world's first betting-shop millionaire," commented a spokesperson for the UK bookmaker.
