22-06-2007 Sweden to reshape its gambling regulations within 2009

While Swedish newspapers report that the government's main priority is to ban aggresive gambling ads, an investigation to identify addictive gambling activities that lead to problem gambling has been commissioned to the Swedish police authority. The findings expected by the end of 2008 may be used by the government to authorize a revision of the current gambling legislation.

In the meantime the gambling monopoly remains in the hand of Svenska Spel, which recently signed a five-year contract with GTECH for a new server-based gaming system and up to 2,650 interactive video terminals.
