22-06-2007 Bwin to seek compensation damages from several German states

According to Thomson Financial, the Austrian bookmaker is considering demanding hundreds of millions of euros in compensation. BWIN co-chief executive Norbert Teufelberger told a German newspaper that he is confident that the German states' monopoly will be ruled illegal by the European Court of Justice.

Teufelberger also said that BWIN supports a political solution that would see the states maintaining a full monopoly in the lottery sector while private betting providers would be given the right to offer sports betting, casino games and poker in exchange for a 15 per cent tax on gross winnings.
