20-02-2008 UK sports minister announces details of new horse racing levy

Gerry Sutcliffe said the 47th horserace betting levy scheme will be the same as last year, with bookmakers expected to pay back to the racing industry as much as £100 million.

In related news, the BBC reported that sporting bodies are to put their case asking for a share of bookmaker betting profits to the Commons Culture, Media and Sport committee. The Gambling Commission is understood to have told the Association of British Bookmakers that there is no need to agree to the request.
