13-02-2008 Massachusetts police raid 5 betting facilities

After a lengthy investigation concerning illegal internet betting, the state police raided 5 houses in Western Massachusetts, confiscating balance sheets detailing an online sports wagering operation with over 130 customers pulling in tens of thousands of dollars a week.

"I'd say it's one of the larger-scale operations that we have done in the past decade," state police Lt. Thomas J. Murphy told The Republican.

"All the local exchanges of money and the day-to-day dealings took place here, but the tentacles of these things go out across the country and obviously out of the country," he added.
