12-09-2006 Vietnam to legalize betting on soccer

According to Peter Velappan, General Secretary of the Asian Football Confederation, a legalized betting system is vital to stop corruption in the sport. Velappan was commenting on the news that Vietnam might legalize betting on soccer by the middle of next year.

Five foreign bookmakers, including Singapore Pools, Ladbrokes and BWin, have expressed interest in setting up in Vietnam and are waiting on the green light from the Vietnamese Government.
