12-02-2008 Victorian Racing Minister to investigate Stephen Allanson's betting activities

Stephen Allanson, chief executive of Racing Victoria, admitted to have placed five phone bets during the spring carnival with leading rails bookmaker Rod Cleary using a bogus name.

Racing Minister Rob Hulls commented: "It is essential that both the letter and the spirit of the rules of racing are upheld and that nothing is done to create even the slightest perception that this may not be occurring."

"Whilst it is ultimately a matter for Racing Victoria Limited, I have asked the Office of Racing to prepare a full report on the matter and I will be raising it with the chairman of RVL once I have received that report," he added.
