The world number 124 has been suspended under the ATP's anti-corruption programme for nine months and fined $60,000 for betting on tennis matches, although there was no evidence that he either bet on his own matches or attempted to affect the outcome of other matches. Di Mauro's coach Fabio Rizzo told an Italian newspaper that Di Mauro foolishly bet on tennis, but never bet on his own matches or even on tournaments he played in.
Meanwhile world number 4 Nikolay Davydenko and his family continue to be under investigation. Davydenko's lawyer Frank Immenga told an Australian newspaper the ATP found out from Betfair that over £3.3 million were placed on Davydenko to lose the match against Arguello by a group of 11 bettors, including nine Russians and two whose location remains unkown.
In related news, Jan Hernych told a Czech newspaper he was approached to lose first-round matches at ATP tournaments in Russia last year. "Someone called me from the hotel's reception to my room, asking whether I wanted to sell a match, if I wanted to lose," said Hernych. "I rejected. I think that anyone who would accept it is absolutely mad."
