07-11-2007 France and the European Commission to meet in February

A spokesperson for the Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy said the EC will meet again with France in early February to find a solution to end the legal dispute over online gambling and consider ways of opening up the French gambling market before France takes over the EU presidency in June.

In the meantime, France promised there will be no more arrests like the one of Unibet's CEO Petter Nylander.

Sigrid Ligne, secretary general of the European Gaming and Betting Association, said he hopes France is not trying to buy time once again and that talks of a controlled opening of the French betting market are real.
