07-04-2005 The House of Lords approves Gambling Bill

After having completed its Lord stages, the Gambling Bill is set to become law when it returns to the Commons.

The Bill will allow casinos to open 24-hours-a-day with unlimited jackpots. It will also introduce compulsory age checks on gambling websites and create a new offence of permitting a child to gamble.

For the first time in the UK, the Bill will introduce a regulated regime for online betting and set up a new Gambling Commission to police the industry

The Government will no longer require for all egaming equipment to be based in the UK. The new Gambling Commission will take a case by case approach to judge which items of egaming equipment could be located offshore.
