03-09-2007 HKJC to assist Taipei Fubon Bank launching sports gambling in Taiwan

Taiwan's Ministry of Finance announced the Taipei Fubon Bank won a six-year contract to run a sports gambling lottery, whose proceeds will be used to stimulate the economy in the country.

A spokesperson for the Fubon Bank said the Hong Kong Jockey Club will serve as consultant in launching the sports lottery, which will offer betting on MLB, Taiwan baseball, NBA and European soccer, with more sports such as horse racing golf and tennis to be added in the future.

"There will be 4,000 to 6,000 games a year to bet on. You can bet on game results, scores and players' performance," the Fubon Bank spokesperson told local newspapers.
