03-04-2008 Dutch Parliament says no to gambling website trial

Holland Casino’s plans to trial a gambling website were denied on Tuesday when the upper house of the Dutch Parliament voted 37-35 against a bill allowing it.

Supporters of the bill, passed in the lower house of the parliament in 2006, wanted to give state-owned Holland Casino a chance to compete with foreign-based gambling sites.

Cryptologic, which had been chosen to power Holland Casino website, said it will not be materially affected by the Dutch Parliament decision to scrap the plan.
