01-10-2007 Russian tennis player offered money to throw a match

The recent Thailand Open winner Dmitry Tursunov is the last one of a growing list of tennis players who, after Betfair announced a match between Davidenko and Vassallo Arguello was characterized by irregular betting patterns, have revealed to have been offered money to influence the outcome of a match or to provide information on fellow players injuries.

Tursunov said he was offered bribes multiple times to lose matches. "I was approached in Madrid in the middle of the season last year and at some other tournament," he told a Russian newspaper.
