05-10-2007 Formula One Betting - Brazilian Grand Prix |
|
With only a few races remaining in the 2007 Formula One season, it is difficult to see what further drama could unfold in what has already been the most fascinating, contentious and closely fought drivers and constructors championships for many years. Regardless of the outcome, the season will almost certainly be remembered for the repercussions that followed the wife of McLaren chief designer, Mike Coughlan, walking into a photocopying shop in Woking to duplicate a sensitive 780 page Ferrari document. The spying saga, and arguments over what advantage - if any - it gave McLaren, will unfortunately take the shine off the emergence of one of the most exciting new Formula One talents in Lewis Hamilton, the champion in waiting. Dramatic Formula One Season Approaches Chequered FlagAs with the farcical goings-on that marred the Tour de France, the F1 spying incident underlines the totally unpredictable nature of risk markets. In the face of uncertainty, gamblers should always make the most of those elements that are in their control, such as getting the best value odds around. In the case of formula one, the most competitive prices will invariably be found with a low margin sportsbook such as PinnacleSports.com, offering up to 60% better odds, without charging commission. But before picking over the bones of the season, there are still a few more races to profit from. Season Ends with Carnival in Brazil The formula one carnival ends at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paolo, Brazil, but the drivers may not be in the mood for partying, after a race with a reputation for being physically punishing. Unlike every other race on the circuit (with the exception of Istanbul), Interlagos is run in an anti-clockwise direction, meaning that the G-forces affect the drivers in a totally different way, exposing any lack of fitness in the cockpit. An exhausted Ayrton Senna thrilled the crowds in his home city by winning here in 1991, despite being stuck in sixth gear for the last few laps. Senna had to be lifted from the car at the finish. Brazilian fans will have two local heroes to cheer in Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa. Looking at the early markets at PinnacleSports.com, it is Massa, driving for Ferrari, who appears the more likely to succeed, having won the race in 2006. Barrichello has led the race in a variety of cars but never crossed the line in first place. Though he is the most experienced driver currently on the circuit, he is consequently the oldest at 35 and might be at a disadvantage fitness wise, compared to his younger rivals. His last victory was in 2004, and he is having a dismal season for Honda. The Brazilian circuit mixes high-speed blasts, and notorious bumps, with some tight and fiddly corners. The long flat-out section at the end of the lap provides overtaking opportunities into the chicane which starts the new lap and it often produces great races because of its long pit straight. It would be fitting for a season that has thrown up so many surprises, both on and off the track, for the unpredictable weather to once again play a part in the Brazilian Grand Prix. The race is prone to monsoon rain with the design of the circuit meaning that rivers of rain can run across the banked sections of the circuit and cause chaos - as happened in 2003. That year, the race was halted prematurely due to wreckage strewn across the home straight, while confusion with the timing equipment meant that no-one was sure who had won. Jordan’s Giancarlo Fisichella was eventually presented with his first victory trophy at Imola a full two weeks later, by Kimi Raikkonen, who had been mistakenly declared the winner on the day!
