Boylesports ditches Swiss customers |
|
While eGaming Review reported that Royal Bank of Scotland has told all of its clients operating in the online gambling sector to find another provider for their transactions with customers in the Netherlands and Switzerland, Boylesports informed immediately its Swiss customers that their accounts would be closed and all outstanding bets canceled with stakes refunded. The Irish bookmaker also told Swiss customers that because of a new law they will no longer be able to receive winning bets, but when asked what new law established that measure, no one at Boylesports has been able to provide a meaningful answer for the very simple reason that there is no new law (not even a change of an existing law, just a political discussion about the introduction of a licensing regime for online gambling sites) but simply the decision of a bank to stop servicing a specific market. So to all of you that like to play ante-post markets I suggest before you place your season long bets, to get a confirmation in writing (since the old school "book a bet pay a bet" doesn't appear to be working with the new generations of “bookmakers”) to make sure your bets will stand no matter what. Surely losing a local payment provider can cause problems in the short term, but that is part of running a business and the bookmaker should at least try to replace the payment provider before voiding all bets as it did, even more because several markets are only few weeks (days ?) away from being decided and as of today both Moneybookers and Neteller were still available to make payments to Swiss citizens.
