Bodog Entertainment announces a brand licensing agreement with Morris Mohawk Gaming Group

Bodog Entertainment announces a brand licensing agreement with Morris Mohawk Gaming Group for the use of all the Bodog domains and the Bodog trademark as well as the operation and marketing of betting in North America.
Industry observers commented immediately that the deal with the Kahnawake's Mohawks was in reaction of the court judgement which ordered the Antigua-based betting and gaming operator to pay $49 million to 1st Technology, a company with a series of multimedia patents applied to online gaming products.
While founder Calvin Ayre claims Bodog was not properly served in the patent infringement suit filed by Scott Lewis' 1st Technology at the end of 2006, the most likely reason why Bodog failed to appear in court in Nevada to defend itself was because it was scared away by the US Department of Justice, which in the past 18 months prosecuted a number of high profile online gambling executives and foreign betting companies.
It also appears likely that just as 1st Technology went to the state of Washington in August 2007 to obtain the transfer of ownership of all the Bodog domains registered there as granted by the Nevada judgement, it may also have gone to other states where payment processors were sending payments to US players on behalf of Bodog Entertainment and got control over bank accounts causing the US slow-pays which have characterized Bodog in recent months.
