Expekt removed from the Green list

Back in December 2009 Bookmakers Review received an email with a catchy title: Expekt, Expect the worst. The email was a complaint against the popular Maltese bookmaker saying that on November 27, 2009, the player who sent the email placed two live bets on the set winner of a volleyball match between EA Patron and Iraklis.
And specifically he initially bet 550 euros on Iraklis at 1.45, while seven minutes later as EA patron was making a comeback he bet his remaining balance of 325 euros on EA Patron at 1.80. The set ended some 12 minutes after the second bet was placed with EA Patron winning it. Soon after the end of the set Expekt voided the winning bet while the losing bet was confirmed. The player was then accused of late betting and the case was closed for Expekt, but not for the player who contacted us.

BMR was able to speak with Expekt Head of Bookmaking, who is the person who made the final decision to void the winning bet, who told us the player was taking advantage of a delayed TV feed and that he did the same thing before getting away with it, but that there was no way they could let him get away with it again.
He then offered to provide Bookmakers Review the proofs the player had this advantage, but when we did not receive any relevant information and contacted him again, he told us a slightly different version of the story where the player already had a similar bet voided (so he never got away with it in the first place) adding that it was suspicious that he didn't complain the first time.

So when the player didn't complain he was suspicious, when he complained he became a scammer.

We were then told a theory we found very disturbing: apparently Expekt Head of Bookmaking believes that players coming from countries Expekt does not target are either bonus abusers or scammers of some sort.
A consideration immediately came to our minds: if a bookmaker doesn't want customers from a certain country, they can stop them at registration. Everything other than that is not acceptable.
And even more importantly, the most relevant fact in the complaint we were discussing, Bwin offering 1.70 at about the same time Expekt accepted the bet at 1.80, was never taken in consideration as Expect had already decided the player was in the wrong.

While this is the first major complaint BMR has received against Expekt, we cannot ignore the Malta-based bookmaker not only didn't provide any proof that the player placed a late bet, but they also lied to us when they said the player had got away with it before and they ignored completely that another bookmaker was offering similar odds at about the same time they accepted the bet they later voided.
It is our opinion that in this case the Expekt trader that was managing the market was slow to move the odds and that if Expekt has problems with certain players they could simply show them the door. Accepting bets and then selectively voiding the winning ones is not an option, no matter who the player is or whether he has been profiled as an advantaged bettor. For these reasons Expekt is downgraded to 3+ (4) and removed from the Green list.

If you have had a similar experience we would like to hear it. Submit your information to feedback at bookmakersreview.com.
Once again we recommended players to be extremely careful when betting live with online bookmakers.
