UIGEA: two weeks to go

While the December 1 deadline to start enforcing the UIGEA is only two weeks away, another US Congressman expressed his support to online gambling regulation.
Democratic Rep. Jared Polis said regulatory systems force online casinos to actively prevent underage playing, addiction, money-laundering and cheating. Polis added that these regulations protect consumers more effectively than the UIGEA protects Americans, who are left vulnerable to potentially unscrupulous offshore internet casinos.
Meanwhile, a new Congressional study estimated that the regulation of Internet gambling in the U.S. could generate billion in tax revenues in the next 10 years.
Rep. Jim McDermott, one of the major supporters of Internet gambling regulations, said he believes is only a matter of time before US Congress appropriately moves to regulate the industry in order to protect consumers and reverse the flow of billions of dollars currently lost offshore: "I suspect that many of my colleagues, especially those on the fence, will take more interest in this issue once they see billion available that they can match up with any number of worthy programs."
