LGA: a new act of the same old |
|
While GoldVictory complaints continue to mount and players on betting forums ask how come the bookmaker continued to operate until mid-April when the LGA suspended the license on March 25, Reuben Portanier, the new CEO at the Lotteries and Gaming Authority was recently featured on a interview with the Sunday Times stating that the player-centric philosophy is intrinsic in the LGA regulations. For those who care to read the full interview, they can find it here. After reading the interview I have no more doubts: the LGA and its new CEO will not change anything in Malta to improve licensing procedures to make sure those unfit to run a bookmaker will not be licensed while players funds will be really protected into ringfenced accounts. The LGA simply needed a new face because that of Mario Galea had become too cumbersome even for them (I've heard a story in Malta about the former CEO and an extortion, but could not verify it), even though he was at the last European briefing of online gambling regulators still representing Malta. So with 125 new license applicants as announced in the Times interview, we should expect a further increase in wannabe bookmakers who have no clue how to run one, but who will eventually receive the permission to operate from the total joke of licensing authority called LGA. It will be interesting to see at what point players will start looking after themselves and stop playing with bookmakers licensed in Malta. Date published: 21 June 2009 Related rating updates |
