Description:
In December 1999, Tasmania amended the Gaming Control Act 1993 to provide a flexible regulatory framework to enable the regulation of gaming and wagering activities on the internet. Today, a Tasmanian Gaming License permits to conduct sports betting and fixed odds wagering on the internet. In 2005, the Gaming Control Act 1993 was further amended to endorse betting exchanges. Betfair was granted a Tasmanian license in January 2006 and commenced operations in Tasmania on 7 February 2006.
